Accounting Firm Leader Recognized for Service
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 1, 2006 – George
S. Willie, managing partner of the Washington, D.C.-based accounting
firm Bert Smith & Company, will be recognized for his record of service
to local businesses and the community at large at a gala event to
be held at Howard University on Saturday, March 4.
The event, part
of the institution's traditional Charter Day Convocation, recognizes
a small group of distinguished alumni each year for their outstanding
service to the university and its students, as well as leadership
in the broader community.
A former assistant professor of accounting
at Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia,
Willie has served more than 30 years in public accounting and is
a past chairman of the Division of Firms, the association of African-American-owned
accounting firms in the United States. Willie also has testified
before various regulatory and legislative bodies on significant accounting
and auditing issues.
Willie graduated from Howard with a Bachelor
of Business degree magna cum laude and earned an MBA in finance from
American University. As managing partner for Bert Smith & Company,
Willie oversees more than 60 CPAs and management consultants who
serve clients in government agencies, healthcare, nonprofits, associations
and education. Willie was named one of the "Top 100 Most Influential
Practitioners" by CPA Magazine,
and Accounting Today previously gave him a similar recognition.
