Bert Smith & Company Leader Acknowledged

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 26, 2006 – In
a special ceremony yesterday, the managing partner of one of the
District of Columbia’s oldest accounting firms was honored for his
commitment to education for minority students. The University of
the Virgin Islands student chapter of the National Association of
Black Accountants, Inc. recognized George S. Willie for "his generous
support to the UVI St. Croix Accounting Association and his dedication
and commitment to minority students nationwide."
In addition to his
support of the Caribbean institution and its accounting program,
Willie has earned a reputation for supporting higher education opportunities
for minority students in the Washington, D.C. area as well. "By supporting
effective education programs that prepare minority students in accounting
and other fields," Willie explains, "we can ensure a continued bright
future for our next generation."
A former assistant professor of accounting
at Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia,
Willie has served more than 30 years in public accounting and is
a past chairman of the Division of Firms, the association of African-American-owned
accounting firms in the United States. Willie also has testified before various
regulatory and legislative bodies on significant accounting and auditing issues.
Willie
graduated from Howard with a Bachelor of Business degree magna
cum laude and earned an MBA in finance from American University. As managing
partner for Bert Smith & Company, Willie oversees more than 60 CPAs
and management consultants who serve clients in government agencies,
healthcare, nonprofits, associations and education. Willie was named
one of the "Top 100 Most Influential Practitioners" by
CPA Magazine, and Accounting Today previously gave him a similar recognition.
