Managing Partner Recognized for Leadership at UDC
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 22, 2006 – Bert Smith & Company's Managing Partner George S. Willie, CPA, CGFM, was officially recognized for his significant contributions and leadership by the University of the District of Columbia's (UDC) Board of Trustees.
At its November 21 meeting, the Board presented Mr. Willie with an
official plaque in recognition of his "distinguished leadership and
outstanding service" to the Board from 1999 to 2004. "It's been my
honor and privilege to serve on the Board of Trustees," Mr. Willie
notes, "and I strongly believe that this university continues to
build on its strong tradition of academic excellence—especially
in the field of accounting."
Mr. Willie, who has served as an assistant
professor of accounting at both UDC and Howard University, is heavily
involved in activities and initiatives aimed at enhancing the educational
options and resources available to African Americans pursuing careers
in accounting. He previously chaired the Minority Initiatives Committee
of the American Institute of Certified Professional Accountants,
and is also former head of the Division of Firms for the National
Association of Black Accountants. He immigrated from Jamaica to the
United States 30 years ago to pursue his accounting education and
career, and has been active in professional groups working to address
diversity in accounting firms and other issues.
